It’s become a cliche to talk about New Year’s Resolutions, and it’s almost as cliche to break them. Every Christian would say that they desire to have a deeper relationship with God, but some of us may not know where to start. It might seem strange to use the word discipline when talking about intimacy with God, but unless we develop consistency in Bible intake and memorization, prayer, community with other believers, our spiritual life will remain stagnant. If you were with us a few sermon series ago, the book Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney was recommended by Pastor Shaun to accompany our “Authentic” series. By illustrating why the disciplines are important, showing how each one will help you grow in godliness, and offering practical suggestions for cultivating them, this book will provide you with a refreshing opportunity to become more like Christ and grow in character and maturity. In 2016, why not resolve to grow closer to God by committing to these disciplines?
One of my goals this year is to at least attempt to publish regular content online from the ministry leadership at Coastal. There is plenty of great content out there on the internet, but I would like those who attend Coastal to have access to resources and thoughts provided by their local church. Along with our Facebook page, this will also be a place where we can commend different books and materials for you to supplement your spiritual growth. Lord willing, it will be glorifying to Him and beneficial to you!
